I just realized I’ve owned this for over a year. I mean, there was a gap there where some dickass co-opted it for a few months but... I still have the title and I have the bike back so #stillcounts. This is the second longest I have owned a vehicle, the longest being the NB at about 2 years.
CX500 plans:
New wiring harness
Fix leaky water pump mechanical seal
Disassemble carbs and replace bowl gaskets
Rejet to 80/120
Ditch airbox for pod filters
Add some sort of gauge cluster. Or at the very least a speedometer and water temp gauge.
Turn signals
New tires
Full custom-welded exhaust
Fiberglass tail section
Longer rear shock
Grease driveshaft bushings and replace rear-drive oil
Possible electric fan conversion
Custom seat
Paint engine, frame, tank, etc
upgrade front brake pads, replace rear shoes

Mmmmm that bike remains all kinds of sexy! Makes me really really want to make bike #4 (previously occupied by a scooter I recently sold) a cafe racer. My girlfriend really wants to build one too so we could make it a couple’s project.
Happy anniversary on two wheels!

I’ve had the luck to have a great friend who gave me a deal on a bike I simply couldn’t pass up, so I’ve spent much of this year on two wheels. Congrats to you, hopefully I’ll be able to move up to the bike I really want (Triumph Thruxton R) soon, and I’d like to get an older project bike myself afterwards , I’ve been looking at older Hondas like a Magna or CBX with a slight envy lately too.

Busas are shockingly easy bikes to ride.

Magnas are great. Shockingly easy to work on considering the complexity of a V4 and the power is really approachable. V65s have weak second gears, though. If you like tearing down engines to component parts and putting them back together again it’s like $14 to buy a replacement part for a V65, buy a cheap V65 with no second gear, and fix it yourself.

I’m pretty sure if I bought either of those two bikes I would ride them once, tear them apart, and rebuild them over the course of the next year.
